Steering Committee Election
Spring 2025 Timeline
Monday, February 3 – Friday, February 21
Registered Advising Network members may submit a nomination for themselves and/or for other registered members during this time. Find information regarding membership and our online directory.
Monday, February 24 - Friday, March 7
Nominees will be contacted via email regarding their nomination(s) by Tuesday, February 25 and asked to accept one nomination for one Steering Committee position by this deadline. Nominees cannot run for more than one Steering Committee position.
Wednesday, April 9 – Friday, April 18
A brief hiatus will occur during the Steering Committee election cycle to accommodate spring break and Course Request. Immediately following Course Request, registered Advising Network members will receive a link via email to complete their voting during this time. Voting will close at 11:59 PM on Friday, April 18.
Monday, April 21 – Friday, April 25
Nominees with the highest number of votes per Steering Committee position will be contacted via email to accept their position. The Advising Network hopes to announce the 2025-27 Steering Committee by Friday, April 25 in anticipation of Global Advising Week 2025.
Open Steering Committee Positions
- Performs the duties and responsibilities of the Chair in their absence.
- Assumes the role of Chair at the end of two years.
- Serves as the VT Campus Partners liaison.
- Leads the biannual Steering Committee election process.
- Maintains a current and accurate list of active members.
- Supports the Network in maintaining its associated membership with The Global Community for Academic Advising (NACADA) and supports the goals and programs of NACADA.
- Supports the initiatives of those in other Steering Committee positions, as needed.
- Develops and maintains Steering Committee agendas and minutes.
- Sends calendar invites to Steering Committee members for meetings and events.
- Ensures the following initiatives are fulfilled: content to be distributed in a monthly newsletter and maintenance of the website and any social media presence.
- Promotes all Social Events and Professional Development Events to current and potential Advising Network members across campus.
- Supports the initiatives of those in other Steering Committee positions, as needed.
- Creates educational and training opportunities for academic advisors.
- Collaborates with the Academic Advising Initiatives office on advisor programming to support diverse and less redundant opportunities across the university.
- Supports the initiatives of those in other Steering Committee positions, as needed.
- Creates social and networking opportunities for academic advisors both on and off campus.
- Encourages institutional networking within and amongst academic colleges, departments, and units.
- Supports the initiatives of those in other Steering Committee positions, as needed.

Voting
Please see the timeline above for information regarding the voting process.
Each member will receive an email with a link to a Microsoft Form and be permitted to submit one ballot that includes one vote per Steering Committee position. The election will use a ranked-choice ballot, reviewed by the current Vice Chair and supported by the other current Advising Network Steering Committee members.
The new steering committee will be announced in late-April.
